HPIP's History: Working Towards a Better Future for the Insulation Industry
HPIP has experienced exponential change and growth in the years since re-branding from the formerly known Blow-In Blanket Contractors Association in 2013. Keep reading to learn about HPIP’s continued development and growth over the years, and what’s in store for the future!
In 1989, BIBCA (Blow-In-Blanket Contractors Association) was incorporated as a trade organization to train and support strictly BIBS dealers across the U.S. and Canada. After a successful run of serving Blow-In-Blanket Contractors, a decision was made to serve a larger scope of the insulation industry. In 2013 BIBCA made the transition to HPIP, High Performance Insulation Professionals: a trade organization to train and support contractors offering select, high-performance systems, no longer exclusively BIBS.
While HPIP was now serving contractors of multiple systems, a gap in the industry was recognized that HPIP was looking to fill: an impartial, independent organization to serve all high-performance systems contractors - unifying spray foam, fiberglass, reflective, continuous, mineral, etc. under one umbrella. In 2017, HPIP was granted charitable (501c3) status as an independent certifying body for the insulation industry to impartially train and certify insulation contractors and workers to high-performance standards. HPIP is now an educational entity deemed for the public good.
Shortly after, HPIP became the only insulation association approved by the Department of Labor to provide industry training and education to Job Corps centers across the U.S. Starting with 1 pilot center, HPIP has now grown to serve 27 cities since 2017 and continues to expand from year-to-year. HPIP has now trained nearly 4,000 individuals with our Department of Labor-approved Primary Insulation Credential. Now, HPIP is working to put that training into action and place trainees with qualified insulation contractors across the country.
Starting in Kansas City, MO on April 29-30, HPIP is holding the insulation industry’s first-ever Insulation Career Fair & Training Expo. Job seekers and insulation contractor employers are invited to train on insulation systems, proper installation techniques, and building science basics to consider while on the job. HPIP will be joined by several industry manufacturer representatives such as Knauf Insulation and Rockwool for educational sessions and live demonstrations. Job seekers will have the opportunity to interview with hiring contractors for their available positions and a successful career in the insulation industry.
